The Interactive Forum is a new feature for our conferences. The following will describe the principle objective of the forum, the participants and the format which will be used to conduct the forum. We believe that the Society is first in offering such a forum and demonstrates that we are not only the first truly nonprofit international society of its kind but one that takes positive steps to advance the science and technology of the field of lyophilization/freeze drying.
Objective:
The principle of the Interactive Forum is to examine from various points of view a topic that is of general interest. It is hoped that such a balanced discussion of the topic will lead to advancing the science and technology of lyophilization/freeze drying.
Participants:
Moderator: The moderator (generally the Session Chairperson) will perform the following duties
Introduction of the speakers
Maintain strict control over the time a speaker has to make a statement or rebuttal.
Allow as many members as possible to take part in the forum as time will permit.
End the Forum.Speakers: It is important to keep in mind that each speaker is in essence playing a role in the forum and what they express during the forum may not necessarily reflect their own personal view or opinions but are made to present various views of the same topic.
Pro Speaker - The role of the Pro Speaker will be to support an existing view point or technology that is under discussion. For example, if the topic may be thermal analysis whereupon the Pro Speaker will present an argument in favor of thermal analysis of formulations.
Con Speaker - The role of the Con Speaker will be to oppose the need for the existing view point or technology that is under discussion. For example, if the topic may be thermal analysis whereupon the Con Speaker will present an argument not favoring the use of thermal analysis of formulations.
Format the Forum:
